Kate Franey is a talented Director at Tonnesons’ tax department. Kate joined the firm in 2016, bringing with her over 10 years of professional experience. Her area of expertise lies in working with family groups and family offices, where she provides high-net-worth individuals with exceptional tax planning and consulting services. Kate’s specialization extends to clients in Private Equity, Family Groups, and high-net-worth individuals.

Kate holds a BA in psychology from the University of Massachusetts Boston, showcasing her diverse background and ability to understand the unique dynamics within family groups, and a Master’s of  Liberal Arts (ALM) in Management from Harvard University, Extension Studies. As a member of the Maryland Association of CPAs, she actively participates in the Champion Program. Beyond her core responsibilities, Kate is deeply involved in various aspects of the firm, including training, networking, social events, and volunteer initiatives.

One of Kate’s greatest motivations is building relationships. She thrives on working closely with family groups, getting to know the different family members, and assisting them in their tax matters as they navigate their careers and establish their own families. Kate resides in Columbia, Maryland. When it's time for a well-deserved vacation, her favorite destination is Turks and Caicos, where she can unwind and recharge. Outside of work, Kate cherishes spending time with her family, especially embarking on weekend trips to explore the DMV region, where they indulge in outdoor activities and visit local farms. She finds solace in walking the trails around her neighborhood, and her passion for interior decorating shines through as she designs her home and serves as a consultant for friends and family seeking advice in this area.
